Preserving Our Heritage for Future Generations

The Plano Conservancy seeks to fund worthwhile projects that preserve, promote and educate the City of Plano’s heritage resources. The Conservancy has successfully funded:

Make tracks to the Interurban Railway Museum - Our field trips bring history to life! Located in Plano’s historic Haggard Park at a DART rail stop. Field trips are offered Monday-Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for all age groups. Reservations are required for field trips of any size. Interurban Museum Field Trips

    Interurban Railway Museum

    The Interurban Railway Museum - housed in a Texas Historic Landmark train station in downtown Plano - transforms visitors back to a simpler time from 1908-1948 when travelers hopped on a rail car to reach destinations from Denison to Dallas and points beyond. Learn about this unique period in Texas transportation by seeing, hearing, doing, or touching a wide range of entertaining and interactive exhibits. Just outside the museum, you can board Interurban Rail Car 360, manufactured in 1911, observe a few of the original seats, and imagine what it was like to be whisked along the Texas Electric Railway that connected cities and small towns throughout North Texas. Tour guides, dressed in period conductor uniforms, provide fascinating facts to enhance your experience. The Museum is the last remaining restored electric sub-station on the Interurban line. Visitors of all ages have fun exploring and experimenting with hands-on devises that teach scientific concepts while demonstrating how electric current powered
